FOLD has grown out of the success of the Barn’s annual craft and design fair “flock”, which is the largest event of its kind in Aberdeenshire, and our growing national reputation for supporting contemporary craft and design. 

After a year of fundraising, the Barn celebrated the delivery of over £200k for some well needed improvements to the foyer and box office areas, as well as the development of neighbouring sheds to create a new craft store and workshop space to showcase local makers. Work began on site in October 2018 and our new craft store, FOLD opened its doors to the public on Saturday 22 June 2019.

Fast forward to today and we now represent over 70+ Scottish-based maker designers. Providing a space to shop local, support small businesses and a place to experience craft + making through learning opportunities in a rural setting. 

Both the Barn and FOLD are based in refurbished farm buildings located just 30 minutes from Aberdeen, between Crathes Castle and the beautiful Deeside town of Banchory.

Established by the local community in 1994, the Barn has grown to become Aberdeenshire's leading multi-arts venue, providing performances, screenings, exhibitions, workshops and events all year round that attracts around 20,000 visitors each year.
