My motif’s convey the concept of time by representing repeating seasons and years. The block pattern shows a human relationship with time and nature - rigid, linear, with an attempt at control.  The back side of the quilts show a deeper understanding of time which is unpredictable and layered. The two sides join together by stitches feeding into one another. These pieces were inspired by Banchory’s social, environmental and industrial heritage, specifically looking at the recreational and environmental features of community life. Kevin's aim was to design and fabricate a collection comprising of a lidded vessel and cup that in part reference whisky and fishing culture in Deeside. The James Scott Skinner design captures the joy of our local music and dance traditions. The ‘Dee Lavender’ design was inspired by Banchory’s once flourishing lavender trade. The glass perfume bottle featured is an example of one of Ingasetter of Royal Deeside’s lavender products. The ‘River Dee’ design presents imagery from childhood walks through the forest in anticipation of the river. The scent of the forest, the crackling of the woodland floor and the magical noise of the running water. Lindsay was always on high alert looking out for a heron or a fish leaping out of the water and recalls the joy of spotting an elusive roe deer or red squirrel leaping between the treetops. Each square in the design represents a different geographical site and has been arranged by grid reference. St Kilda is depicted in the top left and Galloway at the bottom.
